Salary/Wage range: $122,812 to $184,217
Vacation: 20 days annually
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

Status: Temporary for 12 months

About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director, Clinical (Outpatient Programs) is directly responsible for the effective operations of CASA’s outpatient programs including Core, Trauma, Family Therapy and Psychiatry and Medical Clinics. This includes direct oversight and accountability for these programs. This position has six direct reports:
  • Program Manager, Core
  • Program Manager, Psychiatry and Medical Clinics
  • Program Manager, Trauma Edmonton and Family Therapy
  • Program Manager, Trauma Calgary
  • Senior Clinical Advisor
  • Program Development Specialist
The Director, Clinical (Outpatient Programs) leads the organization in the development of program-specific plans in alignment with the annual operational plan and the organizational roadmap. Through this work, the Director is accountable and responsible for establishing programming deliverables, getting the team aligned and excited to achieve them and continually strive to improve on them.

The Director, Clinical (Outpatient Programs) works as part of the clinical leadership team which includes the Director, Clinical (Classrooms), Director, Clinical (Inclusivity and Indigenous Initiatives), Director, Clinical (Day Programs and House), Director, Clinical (Interprofessional Practice and Support Services), and Director, Medical. This team is responsible and accountable for ensuring the effective provision of clinical/medical mental health services that are evidence-informed and responsive to the patients, families and communities we serve.

The Director, Clinical (Outpatient Programs) will:
  • Ensure strategic alignment by:
    • Modeling the organization’s values.
    • Working with the CEO and senior leadership team to ensure policies, procedures and practices are developed and aligned with the organization’s vision, mission and values.
    • Assigning and aligning portfolio responsibilities with deliverables contained in the organizational roadmap.
    • Seeking to understand the patient experience and ensuring the alignment of programs, to meet patient needs and expectations.
 
  • Lead and manage outpatient operations through:
    • Directing and assigning work in the portfolio.
    • Developing and coaching staff to achieve outcomes.
    • Evaluating and providing timely feedback to staff on deliverables.
    • Developing and maintaining relevant clinical operational policies, procedures, practices and guidance documents.
    • Developing, approving and holding teams accountable for achieving operational program deliverables in alignment with the annual operational plan and the organizational roadmap.
    • Identifying, tracking and mitigating clinical operational risks associated with CASA programs and services.
    • Establishing pathways for services within CASA programming, between CASA programs and those provided in community and/or through Alberta Health Services.
    • Co-leadership, in collaboration with other clinical directors, the Strategic Clinical Council and the Clinical Operations Committee.
 
  • Manage financial resources through:
    • Working in collaboration with the CEO and the Director, Finance on relevant contractual agreements with funders.
    • Working with the CEO and senior leadership team to approve organizational and portfolio budgets that support directors while ensuring financial sustainability.
    • Maintaining and applying a broad understanding of financial management principles to ensure portfolio decisions are fiscally sound, responsible and budgets are balanced.
 
  • Lead new programming, innovation and evolution of clinical programs through:
    • Continually generating recommendations about the strategic and tactical opportunities to improve the patient, family and provider experience, prioritizing and executing on the highest impact ones.
    • Reviewing, designing and executing process improvement plans for clinical programs. Where changes include review and/or revision of clinical models, the work will be done in consultation with the clinical leadership team.
 
  • Build organizational reputation through:
    • Effectively communicating, building rapport and relating well to our diverse community of patients, families, colleagues and partners.
    • Listening well and encouraging open exchange of information and ideas within and outside the organization.
    • Liaising with the CASA Board of Directors related to clinical programming and services within the portfolio.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of children's mental health service delivery and related services such as child intervention services, addictions, family therapy and group therapy is an asset
  • Demonstrated change management skills, program development and evaluation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and manage interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research and emerging data into clinical practice guidance.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Enhanced skills in knowledge translation and education, program design and evaluation are desirable.
  • Able to identify barriers and facilitate solution development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of an interdisciplinary approach to mental health illness.
  • Commitment to quality improvement processes.
  • Ability to make evidence-based decisions.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Master's degree in a related field (nursing, psychology, medical science, counselling psychology, clinical administration, etc.)
  • Experience as a clinical leader within the health-care system, leading a team of clinicians.
  • Minimum five years progressive management experience with substantial supervisory experience.
  • Clinical experience working directly within the area of mental health and/or directly with children and youth is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Education and certification in leadership is an asset.
  • Education and certification in patient safety is an asset.
  • Board governance training or experience serving on a board is an asset.
  • Performance management training or experience is an asset.
  • Proven ability to influence and make change. 
  • Well-developed analytical and planning skills.
  • Strong ability and initiative to provide advice, solve problems and implement improvements.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Holds a license to practice and is in good standing with a provincially regulated professional health association or body.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
